The semi-hollow construction gives the Spliced Top a more resonant and open tone than solid bodied Les Pauls, while the abundance of maple in the body adds a brightness and snappiness that lends itself well to anything from jazz to rock. Gibson Memphis have included a pair of specially-designed Memphis Historic Spec (MHS) pickups, which have an open tone that works with the semi-hollow body.
