First launched by Gibson in 1961, the SG was thinner and more streamlined that it's contemporary, the Les Paul. The SG or "Solid Guitar" has that distinctive double cutaway which made access to the upper frets easier than other existing designs of the time. The classic double cutaway body design has been copied by guitar manufacturers worldwide. The two most influential SG players, Tony Iommi and Angus Young have enough rock'n'roll credentials between them to make the SG design a classic amongst rock guitarists.
